PSG Edges Olympique de Marseille on Penalties to Claim Trophee des Champions Season-Opening Trophy in Kuwait.
The Parisian club has now secured the season-opening trophy on 14 separate times.
The Parisian giants required a dramatic leveler followed by a successful penalty shootout to overcome Marseille in Kuwait and capture a fourth straight Trophee des Champions victory.
The Champions League holders seemed to be coasting towards a straightforward triumph in the match featuring the Ligue 1 winners and the Coupe de France holders after the French winger found the net in the opening stages.
Yet, the southern French side fired twice in the closing moments to seize a surprise advantage. Initially, Mason Greenwood converted from the penalty spot, before Willian Pacho unfortunately directed the ball into his own net for an own-goal.
In a remarkable twist of fortune, Goncalo Ramos snatched a crucial equaliser in the final seconds to force the match into a deciding shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Lucas Chevalier then emerged as the hero, stopping crucial attempts from O'Riley and Hamed Traore.
From the spot, Ramos, Vitinha, Nuno Mendes, and Desire Doue all scored successfully for PSG to seal a 4-1 penalty victory.
The record winners Paris Saint-Germain, who met last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Olympique de Marseille after achieving a league and cup double, have now won this competition for the 12th time in the last thirteen years.
