Government Official Confirms Ministry of Defence Investigating Security Risk from Vehicles from China, as Staff Told to Avoid Confidential Discussions in Cars.

An defence official has stated that the Ministry of Defence is actively looking into the potential threats associated with Chinese-made cars, while staff have been told to refrain from talking about secret matters in all vehicles.

Safety Advice for Defence Personnel

In a recently aired interview on LBC, Luke Pollard commented on claims that MoD officials have been told not to talk about secret information while riding in Chinese vehicles.

He stated that the ministry is “looking into” Chinese vehicles within its vehicle pools, however stressed that safety is a issue in every modern cars.

Our department has a fleet of thousands of cars in the MoD and Chinese ones account for a tiny fraction.
But regardless of if you’re driving a vehicle from China or a car from another country, our instruction to our staff is to avoid connecting Ministry of Defence devices into their vehicle, to avoid having discussions at a classified classification in any car, due to the increasing threats of eavesdropping that are present in every single automobile, to restrict those confidential conversations in secure locations. This is a wise and reasonable thing for anyone concerned about safety.

After it was put to him that it would be wise for the ministry to stop using all cars from China, Pollard responded: ‘That’s exactly what we are looking into at the present time.”

Wider Security Context

The announcement follows reports from Norway and Denmark have alerted the United Kingdom to the existence of multi-purpose kill switches in Chinese-made buses, which could allow China to switch off public transport and cause chaos to transport systems.

Furthermore, a Russia spy ship has been directing laser beams at Royal Air Force aircrew, labeled a “extremely risky” act by defence officials.

The broader defence situation highlights the importance of robust protocols and vigilance in all areas of government operations, including transport use to communication practices.
